Siren replacement advice: What are my options?

Take a look at this thread real quick. In summary, something happened to my old-school Clifford Intelliguard 700iq siren when I jump-started my 4R. It only chirps and alarms quietly now. I tried resetting and unplugging everything related to the alarm to no avail. It's still quiet.

My question is: Will any replacement siren work? I see two wires coming from the back of my existing siren. Could I just cut them, remove the old siren, install a new one, and solder the wires?

There are numerous ebay auctions for sirens stating they will work with any system. Is this true?

TIA!

Yeah, your system is pretty simple, any replacement siren with 2 wires will work. Just make sure that your current siren doesn't have some backup system which will keep it going off for the next 2 centuries .

I do belive you can. It is just a speaker. I used a battery back up on my Tahoe and then changed it out to a different one later.
As long as the brain mod is not messed up. I cant remember if you can set the alarm off and read a voltage on the wires to check. I got a message in to my bro (he has 15yrs exp) to see whats up.

Yup, its just like any other speaker, only the sound chip is built into it.

JC whitney sells one that yelps at around 140 db, that should work.

*Update* Replaced the defective siren with a DEI 514N Softchirp siren. It didn't work at first, so I switched the wires around and it worked like a charm.
