I can still remember seeing the first 4runner that my cousin had got in 89 it was a 86 and him telling me about all of the cool places he drove it off road.
and from that first time seeing one and riding in it I wanted one.
I have wanted one of these trucks for many of years, and now have had one and wish I would have had one from the start of my driving career.
you really can't beat the classic body style of the 1st gen or any of the others.
every morning I go to work I say to myself as I walk up to my truck man that's one hell of a nice looking truck.

because i grew up on toyotas (moms celicas and dads pickups). The reliability, the fact they're not EVERYWHERE (1st gens), removeable top, and unlike when I owned the jeep, I'm not constantly having to fix things lol

another thing to stare at besides chicks
they say never look back but i always do that after leaving my vehicle in a parking lot.
i am having a stiff neck and keeping me wide awake while driving on a daylight just to see some other toyota 4runners or truck on the road

It's the pride of the Toyota name and the fact that it's an "old" Toyota (assuming 1st gen), I think.
I get the same comment then question every time, "Oh, wow-that's the one the top comes off." then "how many miles? I heard Toyotas go 1\2 million miles." Mine's just stock, but in 13 yrs I've only ever seen 3 other 1st generations in this area. I think the farmers are hiding them cuz the young kids wanna jack em' up lol

I love my 88 for many reasons. First, the reliability of Toyota. Second, the body lines are just plain sexy. Then theres the removable hard top, and the list goes on. How many other 18 year old trucks will fire up instantly after sitting for weeks at a time?
I love my 97 because of the DEAD sexy body lines. I love it because when I stomp on the pedal, it goes like hell. I love it because it has power windows, locks, keyless entry, and leather seats. Chicks dig leather seats!

Because after sitting for 3 years, i put a new battery in, and as soon as the key turned it was running.
After hitting a telepone pole head on hard enough to bend the frame, it fired right up, first crank, and the bent up radiator that smashed into the engine lasted 5 more years without a leak.
because i cant sleep at night because i want to wake up and go drive it.
and because i look forward to the end of college so i can buy a first gen.
it is the major contributor to my insomnia.

Because the first truck I ever drove from my dads lap and shifted from the passenger seaty was a 79 Toyota PU. I love my 89 Runner. Every time I get in it and drive around I'm happy to have it. It (being a 22re) may not be as fast as my old cars, but knowing how near (except for the IFS and even that's still fairly stout for IFS) bombproof the thing is, and how well it drives for being 18 years old and having 222k on it. Just plain love it. And get this, it has NEVER had the top off. This summer will be the first time.

Sooooo true!!!
When we drop off the '06 4Runner at the dealership for service. I ALWAYS go by the front in my '86 and usually all the sales guys are there. It's funny to see them stop talking and wonder what the hell just drove by!! I keep meaning to stop and ask if I can drive through the rock pile landscape in front!! LOL!
