Ahhh, well then, this will be fun.

I have the stock limited wheels.

WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

get a set of cruiser wheels off of MUD or eBay and you'll be good to go...

they're about $400 a set, then you could count on about $200 or so from selling your stockers...

285's will rub the upper arm so bad that you can't mount the wheels at all w/o a spacer up front. seriously... you won't be able to put the wheels on the truck w/ 305's w/o some serious wheel spacers, and even then, the treads will probably be bubbled up from the narrow rim width. you'd be MUCH better off to get some 285's and some wheel spacers or get some 16x8 cruiser wheels and keep the 305's. my vote's for the 305's, but hey, i'm biased!

argh. dang it. and I thought I had something under control for once.

okay.. I guess I'm wheel shopping. the sucky thing is that I need them NOW. that or I cancel the tirerack order and take a step back from the whole thing. But then I get to deal with "those" tires on my rear axle (see pic above).

4.25" BS means that they stick out farther to the fenders than a 4.5" BS wheel. the 4.5" is more "tucked in". 4.25" would definitely work.

Hmmm... I thought backspacing is the "depth" from the center of the back of the hub up to the edge of the rim. So..

Oh, right. got it. Yes, the hub on at 4.25" is actually 1/4" closer to the edge of the rim.

Okay... AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

This is all running out of control. Add to that a nasty headcold that I can't shake and I'm getting frustrated.

I'm now thinking that maybe the best thing to do is to move back to 285's. I wanted the tire width, but that's just gonna increase rolling resistance, which will suck power, which will suck.

I think the skinnier tire looks "off", but it's only 3/4" narrower than the 305's, and STILL 3/4" wider than what I have now.

The worst thing about all this is being forced into new wheels. I'm "fine" with mine (and they're painted!), and if the 285's will fit on them, then okay.

The REAL kicker is that I would have loved to gone with an even larger tire, but I couldn't afford to re-gear. But, now I'm looking at spending more $$$ just to get these. I don't want to make a snap decision and just buy new wheels 'cause I have to. It's enough for me to deal with $1000 for tires as it is.

So... I need to call TireRack.

Guys, thank you. Especially you Andy - this could have gotten REALLY ugly if the tires showed up.

Okay, I can confirm that Tire Rack is awesome to deal with.

305's cancelled, 285's shipping.

I owe you a beer Andy (and thank you too John)

I think in the end you will be much happier with the 285's. I have run 285's as my winter/street tire for several years now, its a good size tire. I like it much better than a 33x12.50...

Good luck....

Thanks John.

And... to add to Tire Rack praise, they just called me to re-re-confirm the order.

So, 38" super swampers, right guys?

The price ended up becoming $871.40. Even better!
