Rant! No Diesels in Canada/U.S.! And no stripped-down 4x4s!
It's frustrating -- I can't buy a new Toyota Diesel 4x4 like an FJ Cruiser with a 3.0L Turbo Diesel with over 300 lbs./ft. of torque. Or a Tundra with the V8 (yet).
Also, no basic 4x4 models. One saleperson told me he has trouble selling FJs because potential buyers complain there's no leather seat option. Toyota will need to come up with a clever marketing campaign to sell basic, option-free four-wheel-drive trucks and SUV with vinyl seats and steel wheels around these parts. A "Coveralls Package" may be one. An "Organic Package" may help as well.

Yeah its sad. Unfortunatly thats the major market for them. Thats why we got IFS when we did... 95% of people stay on roads...
And we north americans like our gasoline engines, haha! Diesles have an image of being dirty.. 30mpg doesnt sound dirty to me..

I'd also heavily consider a diesel solid-axle Nissan Patrol (wrong board, I know, but still) IF I could buy one! There's a big 242 hp 4.8L gas inline six available as well. It's not fair.

those nissan petrols are great.. but i really like this 2lte with the upgraded head it doesnt run hot.. granted im not wheeling it.. but its an excellent all purpose engine.. the 3b is a work horse but very slow... same with 3l
if your in canada and can find as nice of an import i stumbled apon you would be stupid to not get it..
the gas milage is great! and its either a clean jdm truck or a rusty ontario truck... well the ones i looked at

I'm the opposite. I won't buy because it has leather seats.

Hey mikey good to see you again...
at the prices ToyCAN is charging for the FJ I'd be squawking about the lack of leather too... You want to make your self mad take a look at a US toy dealer from say Virginia/Alabama sells the FJ for.
A couple of dealers I spook with said there was a rumour of a diesel FJ for 09 but that was before the gas prices went nutso now they're saying the model may be cut entirely...
