noticed my fan shroud was actually broken this morning. tried wiggling it into the engine bay, and it ended up giving away. Picking up a new one for 30 bucks.

Should be fixing my slight exhaust leak today as well. ( leaking at the manifold/downpipe connector ) I guess that could also cause overheating as well.

interesting. I drove the 4Runner last night ( changed nothing ) and it didn't over heat? i did 60 on the freeway to keep the RPMs at 2500 and the heater on. didn't even see the needle budge past 1/4 of the temp.

Now I really think its air flow. It was relatively cold outside. ( 70s ) and the other day it was close to 90 when it started overheating. Definitely think everything is operational just needs a fan shroud.

Guys, the fan shroud and fan are 100% not the problem, at idle the temp goes down when the fan is needed and on the freeway the temp creeps up when the fan is not needed. You have either an airflow problem or a circulation problem, may have a little air left in the system, no codes or anything? If it is running a bit lean it will do this same thing.

No codes. System is air free. Idles and drives smooth. my only guess is air flow issues with the winch, lights, and bumper. but why would it all of a sudden have a problem?

The ONLY thing thats really changed is the weather.

Intermidate overheating on excessive distance trips with these trucks is an early sign of Head Gasket failure...

Higher RPM overheating is usually and circulation problem...

Sorry for your loss >_<

I had a friend of mine with a 95 3VZE 100% stock engine that had a blown head gasket on the left back rear cyldiner on the corner that he drove around for 3 years before it finally blew completely on that cylinder...

Just last week to be exact...

I'm schedualed next week to do this repair acctaully >_<

MaK92-4RnR, Have you experienced any overheating issues since your last post on this? Just curious, because as others mentioned, it seems like it would have been something other than the fan shroud. I don't want to jinx you if it's been running good, but often times people fix their issues and don't ever update. Not accusing you of such, but would like to hear more about this, because it is similar to my situation. Thanks.
