Hubs locked and vibration questions!
Hi guys, I don’t really use my 4 wheel drive that often and it really hasn’t been used that much since the truck was new.. When I lock my hubs in and just drive in 2H with them locked I’m getting a lot of vibration right around 55mph or so.. Is that normal or is it possible that the CVs are shot from not being used? Its not un bearable but I don’t think it was always like this although it could have been all along! I guess really my question is how much vibration should there be in my front end with my hubs locked! Do you think that changing the front diff fluid with M1 would make a difference or could it be the CVs? Thanks again, Matt

There'll usually be some noise from the front diff turning... but vibration is more than likely CV's or bad driveshaft u-joints. Take off the driveshaft and see if the vibe is still there... and check the u-joints while thou're at it. If it's still there w/o a driveshaft it's the CV's.

My '91 4Runner is smooth when locked in at all speeds. No vibes at all, a little noise, and about 2mpg less. Should not vibe. As above, u-joints, CV's, bent or out of balance drive shaft in that order with drive shaft being least likely. Hope this helps. Bill
