how much to pay for oem clutch installation
hey guys,
my 1990 4x4 3.0 clutch is on its last legs after 90,000+ miles and im looking into having replaced by a local shop. Only because its finals time and I cant swing the down time required to do it myself.
i was just wondering what a reasonable estimate would be so I dont end up getting screwed. I just blew 1800 last month because of a fan pulley braket (forced to go to a stealership) so im not exactly budgeted to handle this right now.. but i took off from a stop sign today (if you can call it that in a 3slow with no clutch) and it definately needs the work.
thanks for any numbers you guys can give me

$450-$850
I just had mine replaced and spent $450 + $45 for a flywheel. If you call around, you'll get a better deal. I could have went with the first tranny shop, but I would've paid $850 for the same job. I got my rear main seal, pinion seal, flywheel, front diff fluid, and clutch for $850 instead. After calling through the yellow pages, I went with the cheapest place that was less than a block away form my apartment and got the best deal, a $450 clutch. Call around, it will save you bigtime. Another thing you may want to look at is a ceramic clutch. I don't have experience with them, but they supposedly last twice as long as OEM. I changed mine at 131k miles, but I've seen where guys on here waited until 155k or 160k miles before replacement. The Stealership's recommendation for the clutch replacement was all that I went off of. Sure, it wasn't as easy to peal out, but it could've waited and in hindsight, probably should have. The steering relay rod recall was just an excuse to get lots of clutch replacements done by the Stealerships.

I don't like ceramic clutches.. They're like ceramic brakes.. they slip until they're hot and then grab.
Make sure whatever shop does your work changes the pilot bearing, throwout bearing and uses a quality clutch, even if you have to buy the parts.

'90, 3.0, 4wd, book calls for 5.8 hours.
5.8 * whatever their shop rate is:
for instance, 5.8 * $75.00/hr = $435.00 + parts + cost to resurface flywheel.
