How good is the 2.7L?

I know this has to be here somewhere, but my searches could not find it. My search terms must have been way off..

I've been looking for a lower mileage, 4x4 5sp v6 taco for months, but they are few and far between it seems. I just found a very local and VERY low mileage 01 4x4 5spd 2.7 and am going to look at it in the AM. I cannot find anything bad about them. Does anyone out there have any comments on them in terms of problems, longevity, or anything that would make me think twice?

I know about the frames so I'm going to check that out fully. My 99 4Runner has the V6 and I love the motor, but I think I can do without it. My 87 pickup with the 22r has very little power and what I use the truck for it works, so I think I can live without the added power the v6 gives.

Thanks in advance!
Dave

I loved it in my old 97 Tacoma. It is a new and improved 22RE only with balls. Like anything as long as it has been properly maintained it will give years of service.

if the opportunity presents itself i will pick one up and install it in my '81.

The only big thing to look for on an 01 3RZ is to make sure the valves were adjusted. If the engine has gone too long without a valve adjustment, the exhaust valves could be too tight and could lead to a crack in the head. Thats an extreme situation though, but that can happen at any point of the 2.7L's life time.

Other then that, like Rob said, its a newer 22RE with more balls.
It gets the job done, thats for sure. Its just not a race car.

My brother-in-law has a 96 reg. cab with a flat bed and that 2.7 pulls nicely with the 5 spd and 33s. I'm definately a fan. Like the boys said, maintenance is important, toyota is for life!
