so, as some of you know, my truck is in need of a new motor (or a serious rebuild on this one....so with my budget.....a 'new' one it'll be). I'm also in need of a beater car for a couple months.

there's a local guy with an '85 Celica with a 22RE in it for $500. what's different between a Truck/4Runner 22RE and a Celica one? I'm assuming exhaust is different, intake? anyone know?

Long block should be the same AFAIK

I worked on one - but it had a carb not injected.
Didnt know they had injected Celica's

they to, the earlly 90's models, then the later ones.

you shouldnt have any other problems than the intake and exhaust. i say go for it

1983-1985 celicas were available with the 22RE

Everything is the same (including the exhaust manifold) except the oil pan and the intake tubing from the air filter to the throttle body due to the contours of the car.

I think 83-84 had analog fuel injection but the 1985 had digital fuel injection, Plz correct me if I am wrong.

im just wondering, the early celicas were RWD? I know the newer ones are FWD, but im curious about the old ones.

yeah, I'm almost sure that they were RWD. I know that Corollas were until about '85 or '86, and I'm pretty sure it was the same with Celica's.

i've done it before. the oil pan is differnent and the oil pump intake(screened tube below the crank). other than that everything is exactly the same.

I did the swap last year there's nothing to it! but i did use my orginal intake and oil pan

yea, the '84 and earlier 22REs are different than the '85+. '86 saw a complete redesign of the celica, including the switch to FWD, and the drop of the 22RE of engine options.

BUT, the '85 has the 22RE as we know it!
