ATTENTION: Tire recall on some Cooper tire models

This involves some Dick Cepek tires too such as the new Mountaincat tires I just bought.

http://www.globaltirenews.com/headli...?id=1162227260

I called my Les Schwab Tire Center yesterday to ask about it, and he said I should have been contacted already if my DOT numbers on the tires matched what they had in their recall bulletins as they already knew about it.

But he said to come by anyway.
Just got back, and mine are not effected.
Mine are 265x70x17, and the ones near my size that are affected are 265x75x17.

If mine were affected, I would have received a brand new set free of charge.

I know many on here also run the Cooper Discoverer STT tire, the ones I was going to get until Les Schwab turned me onto the Dick Cepek Mountaincats which are basically the same thing, made at the same factory since Cooper makes Cepeks tires.

Anyways, if you own any of these tires, take it to your dealer and have them run the DOT numbers on your tires to see if you fall into the recall.
The recalled tires include numerous sizes of Cooper Cobra Radial G/T, Discoverer ATR, Discoverer H/T, Discoverer S/T, Discoverer STT, Lifeliner Touring SLE and Trendsetter SE tires; Dean Alpha 365A/S, Quasar Plus, Stinger Radial GTS, Trailcat All Season, Wildcat Radial A/T, Wildcat Touring SLT and Courser Radial LT tires; Mastercraft A/S IV, Avenger G/T, Avenger LSR, Courser A/T, Court AWT, Courser C/T, Courser HTR, Courser MT, and Sensys 01 tires; Starfire Flite-Line IV, Solarus, Spectrum LXR and SX 5000 tires; Dominator All Season, Sport A/T and Sport SR4 tires; Mentor All Terrain Radial SXT tires; and Dick Cepek Mountaincat Radial E/T tires.

Corey, do you know if there's any stamping on the tire itself that will help us identify them?

Overseas dealers ignore recalls most of the time

No I do not know.
My local dealer said they just go by the DOT numbers I guess.

Are there any more developments on this issue? I'm looking at Discoverer s/t-c's and haven't found whether or not there is still a problem with Cooper tires.

Really? Hmmm....too bad. They look pretty sharp.

What kind of luck are you have with them? Bad, obviously....but, I mean what are you seeing with them?

tire recall

here the link to check the recalls for cooper

http://www.tiredefects.com/cooper-tire-recall.cfm

Just compare the dot number found on the tire to the one's recalled

thats too bad, cooper has made darn good tires in my past experiences. i wonder what goes on the the manufacturing process that makes certain tires more prone to separate...
