is anyone here swapping these diesels in

I've been over on the Suzuki Samurai reading up on this and that... and they are dropping all kinds of diesels in and getting crazy MPG's... 35 mpg on 33's, 45mpg with smaller ones. A lot of them are putting in the Volkswagen diesels out of VW's, but these guys on this thread: LINK

One of the mentioned cummins is the 3.3Liter Diesel. another is a yanmar...

And alot of these suzukis have yota transmissions swapped in..

So has anyone here swapped in of these smaller diesels? Are there any adapters made yet for us? I know that someone here that can fab could start making adapters.

I don't know about you, but when gas goes up again this summer... I would be very interested in being able to get 30mpg in my 4R...

that idea is awesome. My 3.4 is so slow, I would not at all mind changing it out for a 85 hp diesel. It would get much better gas mileage, and the torque is still there. I really don't care how fast the truck is, but if the money to change it over could be saved in gas, I would definately do it. All of the diesels Ive had last so much longer too.

I'm sure a new one is a bit expensive, but these guys are talking about getting yanmar diesels easily, and something about big generators...
That 3.3 cummins is sweet, and you know how diesels are, a little modding and you could get huge torque from it...
Someone step up and drop one of these in. They said someone dropped one in a jeep and got 35mpg...

nice, and I wouldnt mind having the power from the diesel, but I dont think that for the price of the engine and the swap, that the gas money I owuld save would come anywhere near being worth it. If I had more money to blow, or wouldnt blow so much on other stuff, I dont think Id mind, cant beat a diesel for long term reliability, but Toyotas are bulletproof as it is.

I would not swap a newer motor,, but for someone looking to swap out a worn 3.o or even a worn 22re I think that person would see a big savings in $$$ over the next 300,000 on a diesel, in gas savings...

The suzuki guys are swapping in diesels at around $3000

How much is it to rebuild a 3.0 ??? about the same

If one of the fabricators that are on this forum would make an adapter to use one of the easily available commercial diesels... I think everyone would benifit. Lots of people here talk dreamingly about having a toyota diesel from australia, etc... but is unrealistic with shipping the motor here...

There were a lot of diesels for sale on there for $1500-$4000... And even had John Deeres... Who wouldn't want a John Deere 4Runner That gets 35mpg and will run for 300,000 more miles... for $3000

Do you really think a 4Runner would get 35mpg? Maybe a little Samurai might get 35, but what about a much heavier 4Runner?

it seems that some of the suzuki's are getting 40-45mpg running close to stock (small tires)... a 4Runner with the 3.3cummins, with stock tires... maybe

Factory Suzukis get 20-24mpg's
Check out these MPG's

most of the smaller john deere tractors(e.g. not the huge industrial grade) have yanmar engines in them.

don't get me started on john deere and their new stuff though...JUNK
