4cyl vs. v6 Ring n Pinion

Reason for my question is, I have a 94 4runner v6. Rear end is shot, an if the axle code is right I have factory 4.88. I come across a whole rear axle, no idea whats its out of, but have come to conclusion that is out of a 4cyl, being it has 3 ribs not 4 and 4.10 gears, well anyways Im going too put 4.88 an a spool in the 4cyl chunk an Im wanting to know if there is a strength issue with ring an pinion an spool for 4cyl vs a v6. If not i was just going to get 4cyl RP an spool, or do I need to get the v6 RP an Spool an get the conversion bearings?

Very slight difference in strength. Why don't you get another 4.88 third out of a junkyard?

A junkyard 4.88 would definately be cheaper than the jy 4cyl 4.10 + gearset etc.

You can still install the locker/spool/whatever into that.

The only catch with a jy 4.88 is that you cannot regear it to anything else. But you can sell it and swap the guy you sell it to, then regear that baybee... if you needed to a couple years down the road.

Ive looked in all the junk yards around with no luck, an my factory 4.88 chunk is pretty much worthless, an most the people I know that have them dont want to let go of them. I just happened to run run across the 4cyl entire axle while i was on a delivery an the guy said take it, so i took it. didnt figure there was much dif. in the strength, planing on puttin the 4.88 an spool in an som 33x13.50x15 Super Swamper LTB's.

I would just pull the 4.88 out an put new bearing in it cause I think the RP still good, just pinion bearing bad but its my only wheels to get to work an back an to get my kids from daycare been driving little as possible. So figured Id build the 4cyl an when I get it done but it in the rebuild the v6 an sell it or swap it...who knows my ticker ticks a little funny anyways lol
