'01 Tacoma 4x4: $12K OR '99 Prerunner $10K?
The choice I have most likely would seem to be a no brainer to most of you all here.. but to me.. well, Im not as seasoned on these trucks as you all are so bear with me.
Here are the details.
Both of these trucks are at a Toyota dealer.
I already have negotiated the prices you see here.
2001 Lunar mist xtra cab SR5 4x4 3.4L V6 5 speed manual, leer shell, Bedrug ( yummy) TRD package. Very nice condition 79K miles.. $12K
1999 White xtra cab, PreRunner, SR5 3.4L V6, AUTOMATIC, TRD package, Shell ( unknown brand) plastic bedliner with bed underneath scuffed up quite a bit. 99K miles Also very nice condition body wise as well as interior. $10.2K
Both shift fine.. I do like both the automatic as well as the manual for all the reasons one would like that particular transmission. Thats a tough one for me
I have seen a couple of trucks with automatics go well over 200K miles but that could just be a fluke. I dunno..
Both run perfect.
Now, my main question besides which is the better value is critical...
Do the 2001-2004 model years have ANY quality issues?
What about the 1999 model?
Is the famous Toyota quality still just the same in the 2001 and up years?
ANY piece of advice you can give me would be VERY helpful. Especially if you own one of these years I am looking at.
This is important as I am going to be keeping this truck for quite a long long time
Thanks
Pete

if you can afford it that taco is definately worth it. the frame weakness was fixed after 2000 and most of the rust issues were resolved for the 01-04 model also.
i can guarantee you will love the taco, my only advice is dont get carried away wheelin it until you put some money into upgrades. I say this because in stock form that truck will go more places and take more abuse than any stock vehicle should, but just because you can doesn't mean you should ive learned
