I am aware its a Fram and I did oil the filter and only hand tightened. Oil Filters have always been hard to get off my truck and I have plenty of friends that have Toyota's that have the same problem.

I agree with dannomite kind of. I oil every filter that I put on and never use a filter wrench to tighten mine and have had problems like this as well. Not only on my own vehicles but the many years I spent working at oil change places as well.
I have yet to have a problem with the filter on my truck since I switched to the Pureone filter. Why that is I have no clue. lol

I had the same problem on a filter from my 1999 Taco. It looked like that too after a hour and half messing with it. Since then I only use Fran filters with the tool that goes over the end and can be attached to a 3/8" socket.

No BigBlue, it's optional. lmao!
Mine comes off pretty easy by hand. I only put it on about a little 1/2 turn more after the gasket hits the block. I either use PureOne or Toyota OEM filters - not to get the whole "which oil filter" discussion started

I worked at a Jiffy Lube for about 7 months when I was 18, and a good band wrench set is your best friend at that place
but even those can be tricky yo use with a 22re that has AC...
I've usually had good luck with the socket-style tool, and a couple of extensions, and going in through the wheel well

Go to harbor freight and get their oil filter pliers. They are basically a big pair of channel locks but shaped for oil filters. Works like a champ for about $5.00.

When I run into a filiter that won't come off by hand, I stab a screwdriver into the filter, then use the handle to twist it around. My shade tree tip of the day.

Well as far as the screwdriver trick goes... thats how it got lookin so bad and that didn't work this particular time. That wrench in the picture was actually pretty tight it was like 2.88 at wal-mart and worked really well for a while but now ill be buying the one with the socket attachement and one like Tinman mentioned at harbor freight. And I am aware frams suck lol
