Wanting to remove my cat emissions control ?

I know AL,TN,GA, and NC the first thing you cut off an new truck is your cat. Well I got this truck and I want to cut this cat off and put a glass pack resonator. Does any one know if I can get a way with this in wyoming?

Careful dude, I just got lectured for bringing up the very same topic in another post. I live in AZ and my county only requires a smog check upon initial purchase of the vehicle, after that you're free to do whatever. I would say that if you're not required to smog or have your vehicle inspected annually or bi-annually or whatever then you're probably safe to do it.

Why bother removing it? It doesn't "limit" your horsepower and isn't in the way of anything. You can replace your muffler with a glasspack if you really want to, but it will sound like complete crap.

if you are coming through my fine state I urge you to resist that ridiculous idea sir.Air is air and we all breathe it and hope to have it for future generations.

Add me to the lecture list top dead center.

Go with a high flow cat-Magnaflow makes them. Your vehicle is not exactly mentioned but it's brand new? Why the heck would you mess with it....? It's designed into the feedback of the exhaust system why mess with your gas mileage-you hoping to make it get worse?

Wyoming ? why would you risk trouble in the wide open West just to foul the air?

Please rethink this.

Smog in Wyoming? Hmmm...I'm not going to encourage you, but ask yourself if the risk is worth the reward. Although I'm not sure who's going to crawl underneath your truck to check. Well, I was going to take mine off, just so no one would steal it. But I decided against it for now, since people aren't really stealing cats anymore.

The smog control issue and where is comes from and who is contributing is highly debatable...

If you took one plan trip to from LA to NY in 757 you'd be contributing more "air pollution" than driving your cat-less vehicle in Wyoming until it was junked.

With that said, being legal is a factor. The cat that was installed at my local muffler shop a few years back had a tag on it from the manufacturer. It basically said that the cat was only guranteed to function properly for 25,000 miles. And that they manufacturer was not liable for any damage to your engine.

Although I'm somewhat skeptical, recently my local muffler shop said that the cats they install do not restrict exhaust enough to cause loss in performance.

NOTE: The global warming "scientific data" that Gore used to create a scare, has been completely debunked.

good choice celticyota. I know the urge is there to try and make a cheap performance improvement, but removing the cat is not one.

What kind of vehicle are you working with? i'm sure there are some far more effective and legal ways to mod it.
