Should I sell my 3.0L?
Recently my brain has been hurting from all this thought of selling my 4runner and ditch the 3.0 auto for a 5 speed 22re.
Is it worth it? Or am I being silly.
The gas milage i get on my runner now is terrible, around 300km/tank (186 miles/tank)
And for the auto, i feel that its not putting all the power to the pavement.
I feel like having an engine that is more reliable, cheaper on gas, and easier to upgrade/ work on will be more beneficial in the long run, rather than to dump money into this one.
I have had continuous problems with oil leaks and odd quirks with the 3.0L. But one second ill want to ditch her, and the next i cant let go. The actual truck is in amazing shape.
How much worse is the power on the 22re? My dad said his 22r wasnt that much worse with headers, plus all of the other add-ons i could factor in, even gears etc.
What should I do? Considering that I find another one i can get my hands on.

well, the 3.0 WAS on option over the 22re but as time went on people found out that the 3.0 was a massive MASSIVE POS....the 22re might of only had like 115hp and 140ish torque but it was invincable, and its power band was all low end like 140torque at like three grand.its like a gas powered diesel lol, yeah the 3.0 was under powered, bad on gas, heavy as heck, and popped head gaskets... so yeah the 22r/re has stood the test of time it has my respect as a good little engine and it is a way better engine the the 3.0 IN MY OPINION. because well i own one, its broken but well it should be its been to hell and back more the meatloaf has been. so i say 22re all the way!!!!!

I have really thought about saving up and doing a 3.4L swap, but honestly i dont have the money to buy the engine and have it possibly rebuilt and put in. I wish I could do it myself but i dont have even close to enough skill to install that sucker.
I was thinking about doing this also, but again my lack of automotive knowhow holds me back. Im trying to learn lol, but im not quite even in the remote area of even knowing where to start.
Best of both worlds . See above lol
The reason im thinking about selling it is because i dont really want an auto tranny anymore ( boring ), and because of the leaks and problems i think are looming in the distance. It has over 400xxxkm's and i dont think its been rebuilt, headgaskets replaced in '95. Personally i would most likely want to do the 5 speed swap over the others, but being able to get one already with stick and an engine i can put more into with more gain and for less cost kinda appeals to me.
p.s
hows a 70 Chevelle 454 LS6 sound
