hey i've been running toyotas for about a year now getting pretty familiar with them. never had to get into repairing the diffs yet. anyone have any good writes ups on working on them. i'm looking into buying another 94 4x4 22re pickup that needs work on the rear diff. how big a job is it to take the diff out of my other truck and put it in this one?would it just be a strait swap or would have to buy some new parts too? also it may just be the carrier bearings that are bad.are they a big job to change?would it be an expensive job if i got a shop to do it at $25 an hour?any help would be great. i would have to sell my daily driver to buy this one so would have to have it on the road pretty soon after getting it.

You might have an abs sensor on the 94, but if they both have the same ratio, it's a straight across swap that you can do yourself in a couple hours.

they are pretty much the same trucks sames gears and everything just my other one is a 90.

to remove the diff do i just pull the axles then unbolt the third and pull it out or is there more to it lol

That is the basic idea. Usually need to disconnect and plug the brake lines and the e-brake cables on each side. Slide the shafts out 3-4" or pull them all the way out - watch that you don't damage the inner axle seal.

Getting the third member out is easy like he said pull the axels all the way out so the weight is not on your your seals how ever setting the back lash is a pain in the ass and yeah 25 an hour is a great deal almost too good to be true make sure they know what they r doing for that price though.... I need to find a way to rebuild mine strong as crap cause I keep chewing my gears too much hp

i've got 2 good licensed mechanics close to me out here in the sticks that are both really good and cheap ($25 an hour)but usually a 2 week weight to get into them lol. i was gonna go look at that truck for $1500 when i came across another 91 4x4 with a 2x4 for parts up the road from here for $400 so i think i'm gonna jump on that. he said he took it of the road cause he blew the oil seals in the motor. any seals that are known to go on these? how are they to change? i know the front main isnt to bad but dunno about anymore of them.
