noise first started in reverse, low speed, now can also be heard going forward. only happens when foot is on the gas. sounds lightweight metal on metal, sometimes like a clicking noise, worse around corners and over bumps. also have a high pitch whine between 35- 45 mph, also only when foot is on the gas. greased the drive line and checked the dif. fluid. level was ok and fluid was clean. Could this be the carrier bearing? or something else. dont want to tear into it unless Im sure Im headed in the right direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

jack the truck up and try to rock the wheel back in forth to check for play if play exsits your bearing is toast

thanks for the advice. Ill give that a try and let you know what happens. Guess I should probably check each tire cause Im not sure witch side the noise comes from.

jaced up truck checked both sides absolutely no play there. I rotated the tire when it was jacked up and noticed some play in the driveline when rotating forward to reverse. seems to be comming from the differential. Also notice the drive shaft was rotating slightly oblong from the carrier bearring to the rear dif. but there is no play in the u-joint. This is causing a slight vibration at higher speeds. Could this be caused by impropper load on the pinion bearing/ shaft? or do i need to replace some parts in the rear?

there should be some play when rocking the wheel back and forth it is called back lash if its too much then you may have a issue but a little is fine. those drive shaft carrier bearings from what I hear are problematic you should investigate that see and if it has excessive play i have seen them oblonged and it causes some real drivabilty issues
