Japan model & U.S. Model mk 2 T4R

What is the differance between the U.S. Model and the Japan Model? Apparently I have a Japan model.

first, its not a T4R. its a 4runner. second, whats a mk 2? are you talking about a 2nd generation 4runner? third, all 4runners are made in japan, even the 4th gens.

All 4Runners, any gen, FJ Cruisers and Yaris' are 100% Japan made. I am not sure if there are any other models that can boast that...

Why would you assume you got the Japan'ed version? Is your speedo in km/h? Do you have spoilers in places you'd rather not? Does your car tend to randomly leave your garage and drift corners?

If the VIN starts with a "J", it was built in Japan.

Ok, first of all sorry for abbreviating when I was not supposed to, guess that is why I put this in the newb section. Like I said in my introduction I came from the VW scene. Over there they refer to new "Generations" as mk's (mark) Like Mk1, mk2, mk3, and so on.

And for the reason for the question, I was looking on the autozone website and it said if your VIN starts with J it's a Japan model, if it starts with 4 or 1 it's a U.S. Model.

You have a 4Runner made in Japan for the US market, which 99% of the 4Runners sold in the US are.

sorry, didnt mean to sound like i was bustin' your chops re T4R. that other forum likes to call their 4runners T4Rs. i just think its ghey. anyways, yes, 4 or 1 are US built models, but those do not apply to 4runners since they are all built in japan. i owned a 95 camry that was a US built one and it did have a 4 in the VIN

welcome to yotatech but yeah, all runners are made in japan. japanese 'spec' 4runners are jdm as said above. they're all RHD and called the hilux surf. and they come in much better configurations than those that hit our shores. tacomas on the other hand are made in usa. their (and previous pickup or mini truck) japanese counterparts are known as hiluxes. theres quite a big difference between the two...frame strength being one of 'em i think..

and i immediately knew what mkII was..i also spent alot of time in the dub world. had a couple mkII GTi's myself...
