Intro to myself (noob) and questions...

Introduction

Hi, I have a 91 Toyota MR2 turbo and my gf (soon to be wife) has an 98 4runner Limited (3.4 5VZ).

Anyways, I'm soon to be doing a 5VZ swap into my MR2 and I wanted as much information on the 5VZ as possible...

What is the factory ECU tuned for (as far as boost)? I hear 7psi and I hear 8psi and I hear 6psi...what is it?

How much good would a fuel tuner do? (SAFC-II)

What are the best 'first mods' to do to extract some power out of the 3.4L torque monster?

Welcome to YotaTech, sounds like you've chosen the right place for your needs.

However, I do suggest you utilize the search feature in the blue bar at the top of the page.
If you search for "5VZ 3.4" you will find more than enough info on it as well as all the mods available for it.

No need to apologize my friend.
If every member was only alotted one time to not search we'd have FAR less posts on this site!

haha, True that fink !!

On the real though, Our 3.4 section is huge..

There's that one site where you can download the toyota wiring diagrams, which would be a good idea for the year of both the MR2 and the 5VZ you get..

Also, Will a 5VZ even fit..?
I figured an MR2 would want a 7mgte..

Anycase, Welcome !!

BAMF CT2004 - Yea, I'm on MR2.com and MR2OC.com, but you'd be supprised how little information there is on the 5VZ...the 1MZ and 3VZ are the more popular...but I want the torque...

scuba - Yea, 1MZ, 3VZ, 5VZ and 3GR fit with only modification to the front motor mount. (of course you have to plum and wire it...but to 'fit' it...no modifications, just the mount to mount it...)

Welcome to YT!
Baseline for the standard supercharger addition to a 5vze runs about 6-7 psi. Changing the pulley diameter can up that though. The factory mapping keeps up really good aside from a few small issues.

Welcome to the family
nice pics... why would you be looking for more torque in the light MR2? Would a big 6 even fit? why not just intercool or bump up the size of the supercharger and maybe add NOS for more performance?

Fitment... (thwam from MR2OC and MR2.com)

Thanks for the compliments on the pictures...I do enjoy playing with photography, but I'm no photographer.

aviator - See the above pictures...they're a 5VZ. More torque than the factory 200ft/lbs...well I want it more in the low RPM band... The 3S-GTE (factory MR2 turbo motor) has 200HP and 200ft/lb torque factory, but the torque is in the 3000-3500 RPM range and the peak HP is at 6000 RPM...a little high for my taste. I'm thinking a lot more torque (maybe around 300 eventually) at a lower RPM and (again eventually) with the addition of a supercharger (M90 or M112) and some Sea2Sky 262* cams (and a port and polish job) and have a real nice high RPM HP for the same MR2 feel...

BUAH!!! Ok, update... I bought a 1988 MR2 to be my 'putt-putt' car until I fix my 91 to be my dd again, so basically most of my V6 budget went out the door...

Anyone want to donate some 5VZ parts for a worthy cause?

I always liked those 1gen wedge-mobiles... I saw a black one once that had been done up with Lambo doors and a few other goodies... looked pretty sharp...
saw one once with the targa top... very sweet...

Yea, I like it...but the styling doesn't touch the 91's...and the fun factor to the turbo MR2 is way off, I'm jonesing for the V6, I dont have much patience...but I'm becoming more and more tolerable of time...
