Idle screw and belt squeal

I'm new to mechanical, and recently had to mess with this '94 5spd 22re. After changing the fuel filter, it had a high idle, >1000 and >2 when cold. I turned the idle screw down, but stopped when a bunch of squealing came from the belts area and turned it back up a bit till the squealing stopped. It seemed to be idling roughly between 500 and 900 generally. There's a bit of something rough going on, I'll get to later.

Anyway, at my new setting, driving, whenever I went over 2500 rpm, a bad sound like frantic belt squeal came from the engine.

I turned the idle screw 3/4 turn higher, and now the belt squeal occurs over 3000 rpm.

What is this indicating? Is there a link to explain how idle speed and belts are related? Well, I think it's belts, and much appreciate any guidance.

Might be a bearing in one of the idler pulleys that is going or a loose belt. Check all the belts for tightness, usually ~1/2" deflection in he center of the belt pressing with your thumb is decent. If all belts are tight, try removing one at a time and check the idler pulleys, see if they spin smooth and don't feel wobbly or too tight when you spin them by hand.

Thanks for this; they look old and worn for sure, and probably one too loose and down to its last thread. It sounds simple enough to change them out. But my truck has only two belts - I think there should be 3 since it has power steering and A/C? Is there a diagram that shows how to mount a third A/C belt? The PO just said 'the ac never worked'.

I have the FSM but it's all in pieces and hard to find a belt diagram, let alone belt part numbers?

A/C is the middle belt on my '85:

I think on mine, A/C and alternator belts are the same:
