I think my A340H is about to give up the ghost

I think my tranny is going to give up the ghost any day now! it is making a loud noise in drive while trying to merge into traffic sounds like it's coming from right under the shifter for the P,R,N,D,....I can keep my hand on that shifter and feel a grinding and a loud noise like something is getting loose.I also noticed the tranny has a lot of rotation play when moving the rear companion flange with the D shaft is removed.I can click off the O.D. and can feel the grinding really bad, and when I switch on the O.D. is is still there but not so bad..maybe the O.D. planetary gear is going out?...my tranny shifts fine through all gears but when it kicks down the thing sounds like something is loose under the shifter housing area and I think it is coming from the hydraulic case area .I have checked the linkage and it's fine and I don't have a flashing O.D. light....so any suggestions?.....tranny fluid has been changed along with filter a while back and I haven't droped the small T-case pan yet maybe I'll do that next weekend just to see if there is anything in there other than gear dust on the magnet

Arrow May not be the transmission?

CALLING ALL GURU'S FOR HELP.....Ok maybe the transmission is not the problem I feel like it maybe coming from another area like the torque converter or a bearing in the engine or both or something else.... let me paint a picture for you now that the grinding vibration is much much worse now
OK...with the 4runner in park and at idle 800 rpm I feel no issues until I raise the RPM's from 800 to 2000 and start to hear and feel a little grinding vibration and from 2000 up to 4000 RPM's. I really hear and feel the grinding vibration and even the automatic stick is vibrating....I then put the 4runner in dirve and go for a drive down the street and feel the grinding vibration when accelerating above 1500 RPM's up to 4000 rpm's and can feel it in the floor board and shifter stick and just under the console at the bottom of the shifter.
now with this being said while I'm driving and the grinding and vibration is at it's worse. I decided to do a test just to see what will happen...I just turned the ignition off just to cut the engine but not the electronics or lock the steering wheel and guess what happened.....THE GRINDING VIBRATION WENT AWAY! ......but came back as soon as I turned the ignition switch back on and now I'm thinking there is something else going on here and would like some input if any one can help me diagnosis my issue before I go and purchase a transmission....any help would be appreciated
Dwayne
