check your air flow meter mine had a similar issue and the flap was totally loose inside there should be resistance to open. also the o2 sensor could be causing your issue after i replaced my airflow meter the truck was sluggish in midrange i unplugged the sensor and it ran great so i replaced the sensor and the truck drives great

if not air restriction coming in then fuel restriction. Fuel filter is my best guess from your description of the symptoms. Run a can or two of fuel cleaner through it just for kicks and see if you notice any help.

No codes mentioned(?) cat smelling? any weird exhaust or gas odor?

Any lights on? Trouble Codes? Is there a check engine light on while this was happening.. if so i suspect airflow... check resistance of air flow meter and make sure its in spec... if any of it is not in spec it needs replacing... check for fuel... spark....
