When I bought my 93 22re 4x4 I immediately threw 33x12.5's on it, I mean before I even drove it around the block.. I noticed it was pretty slow but I figured it was a 4 cyl truck so it wouldn't move fast regardless..
Thing is, I also got 300km to 65L city/highway and couldn't use 5th on the highway without it slowing down considerably.. I blew my motor after a while (hydrolocked..) and put my 27's back on when I got a new motor in, now I get 620km to 65L city/highway and have enough power to tow another truck without it being tragic..
If I were you I'd look at 4.56's and 31's, and 4.88's for 33's.. That'll be my next mod - the gas sucking away as quick as I put it in doesn't make it worth it to me for the extra clearance.

That would mostly be because the odometer was reading quite a bit SLOWER with the 33's, giving you a lower mileage reading.

What? Around town he won't have any problems at all. He's not going to win any drag races, but it will drive around just fine. Why the hell wouldn't he be able to wheel at all?? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

You need to be able to go slow, crawl, around here and most everywhere else (but especially around here in the rocks) where you really need 4wd.

Ummmm....he still has 4lo. You've never driven a truck with stock gears and oversized tires, have you? 4lo is still pretty damn low and perfectly capable of wheeling with 33's on stock gears. It's not going to be so much of a difference that he can't take it off-road. Geez....

If you are gunna drive on the freeway alot, I'd go with 4.56's. Most of my driving is offroad/in town and it does great! but on the freeway my truck is screaming at me at 65 mph and 3000 rpm I think 4.56's would be perfect for lots of freeway driving because you'd be able to go 70-75 probably at about 2700 rpm which is pretty good!
