Buying a Tacoma bed
I need to buy a bed for my 1999 Tacoma X-cab 4wd.
What should I expect to pay. I'm having trouble finding a selection of beds to compare.
Any other factors / concerns I should be aware of.
Color
2wd or 4wd
Tail gate
Factory flares
I see that Car-parts dot com list only 8 or 10 available nation wide and most of those are damaged.
Toyota OEM wants:
BODY ASSY, RR A - W/o step side
95-00 $5,029.10 $6,046.92
Guess I could just put an entire bed side on my truck, but
I'd expect the side installed with paint to run $500+ easy.
I'd DIY but the cutting and welding thin sheet metal on a newer truck scare me.
PO crashed it into a ditch and it now looks like and elephant leaned against the truck bed (waist high and smooth pushed in arch). It got the inner and outer up high above the wheel and pushed the rail in 4" - 6".

It was a 2wd bed, my truck is 4wd.
I rolled the dice and brought it home (clean color matching ~ no damage).
Guess I'll resell it if I run into any serious complications.

I have a buddy that put a brand new bed on his 99xcab tacoma just before it got recalled for frame rust. he works for toyota and managed to pull the bed off and it is for sale. It is imperial jade mica color (Green). This bed is brand new and freshly painted. I'm not sure what color your truck is though. It is located in Southcentral PA. PM me if you are interested. I have no idea right now what he is asking for it though. If you are interested i can find out for you.

Thanks HazMat! I'll keep that in mind.
I'm gonna give this one a try. It is black and matches my black truck. Another friend was saying somthing about 2wd & 4wd being different, but I only see the stick on fender flares, Sheet metal looks the same.
Big Wave to ya Sea Air Rescue... I'm just below Richmond (Colonial Heights Va)

Other then Toyota OE replacment pannel what are the repair options. I couldn't find aftermarket bed sides. Used Bedsides are +++$$$
I considered drilling the spot welds, and working each pannel straight individually.
Otherwise I think pulling it and spot pinning it may just crease it (But i'm no body guy)...

you could remove the bedside to work on it but i might try to do it on first, it just depends on what the inner looks like and how concerned you are about it. you might check with a body shop and see if they can get aftermarket parts, i have never had much luck finding them online.

It's been at a friends body shop since early April waiting on him to straighten the frame (PO hit a ditch hard on the drivers front).
Brought it to him on a Wed, he said I'd get it back that Friday...
90 days later and It's still their. I hope if I can avoid more time in the body shop I may just be a step ahead of the game.
