Aisin hubs for a 1997 4runner?
I was stuck in the sand a couple weeks ago and was pissed to find out my front diff was not engaging, freakin ADD system, well been reading Alot and have found that I would like to bypass the ADD system and add Asian hubs. I have found a set in a junkyard on a 1988 4runner, Now I have not been able to find if it is possible to install them on a 1997 just up until 1995. So is it possible?

according to Downey, you're SOL... Unless you buy a whole hub assembly from one with manual hubs
or there is aftermarket... @$1,700 IIRC...

I'm sorry man but your thread title cracked my ass up - "Asian" hubs.
I'm not bashing you by any means, I just had to laugh at that though.
I have since fixed it for you.
I know there has been a lengthy discussion on here about this very topic but I honestly cannot remember the outcome...let me try and find it.

Here's the thread I was thinking of.
If you do a search for "add conversion" you will find a TON of reading in addition to that thread.
Might be worthwhile reading that stuff before diving too far into it.

Now bear with me here, I dont think the differential is on the donor truck anymore anyways, but this is what I am looking at, I can get the Aisin locks for $40 each, how much more of this would I need to remove and replace, in order for this to work, thanks for your time guys. JMM

I doubt it, Toyota's in junk yards down here in South Texas are few and far between, if they roll they are pulled thru here on there way to South America. Was surprised to find these hubs.

I like that thread I link'd to mainly because it talks about the pro's and con's of doing the swap and what you actually accomplish - the tech info will probably not match up very well though.

simplest, cheapest way is a manual hub conversion, youll need 2 hubs, 2 spindles, and 2 new axles. the only downfall is you loose abs. however ive heard some people get an increase in mpg's and its so much easier on your axles, they won't always be spinning
