i just bought the truck the other day and im new to yotas.. everything was fine, and as my luck goes, today the trans started making a horrible sound.. almost like a diesel when the rpms are real low.. raspy, grinding kinda sound almost, but its quiet and normal in 4th gear.. im almost positive its the tranny, but just hoping for a little insite before i go buying one.. thanks in advance

Best tip I could give you is make a video and post to help? does it only do it when running or in gear?

Have u checked the oil in it? It doesnt sound to good though

heres a video i tried to take today.. id say it was a failed attempt, but its all i got at the moment.. idk how well you can hear it either.. but its going from 4th gear to 5th.. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear make noise but its bearable, 4th is quiet as a mouse, and 5th is terrible..

Your symptoms sound like mine.

Fourth is ok because its a 1:1 drive ratio....no gears to grind.

I ended up swapping in a used one with fewer miles and it sounds great. Search for "philbert's 1987 4runner w56 swap" and you can follow my symptoms and swap.

im looking for a trans for my 87 p/u 4wd, found a guy who has one laying around, but doesnt know which trans it is or what it came out of.. what can/should i look for while looking at this trans to see if it will fit my truck? thanks in advance
