70-miles per hour Rpm

Hey guys and gals, I just took a trip up to the local ski area, had to take the interstate for some of the trip, where the speed limit is 70MPH. What RPM should a 2nd gen with a V6 and 5 Speed be running? My 92 was running at 3000 RPM, Kinda high, isn't it?

That sounds about Dead N#&ts On to me. At 70 to 75, the speedo needle and tach needle should be close to mirror images of each other. Assuming a stock set up, that is.

Oh I don't know if that is all that high... My '94 4cyl 4x4 pickup pulls 3000 rpm doing 70mph.

Never had it that fast before, did not know if that RPM was safe.

About 4 times a year I run a 600 mile trip to Mackinac Island for work, mostly all interstate, is it safe to run 70 the whole way?

Mine is right on 3K at 70, 3500 at 80 and 4K at 90... I don't even look at rpm's past 90, lose track of the road.

Mine is 3000 at 70MPH with 4.88's and 33's with the manual tranny.

Molly's is about 2600 RPM at 70MPH. Automatic with 35's and 5.71's.

It's actually good to run it at 3000 - 3500 RPM, that's in the lower end of the powerband and you'll be able to cruise at that speed without having to flog it too much. I'm ALWAYS in the throttle, kicking out of O/D in Molly's truck since the motor makes NO power below 3000 RPM...

But yeah, it sure does sound bad!

It looks like the difference in gearing between the auto and 5-speed is pretty substantial. My 3.0 auto with 4.88s and 31s turns about 3k at 80mph. Around 2600 at 70mph.

I think I'm around 2400 at 70. That's with a 3.90 rear, auto, and 31s.

the 3vze is actually meant to be revved more than bogged. It's OEM powerband starts off at about 2800rpm or so and extends to about 4300 or so, then the tq falls off pretty badly.

But our sister engine found in camry of the same time period are quite happy revving to 7200 rpms.

I never would have expected that. Does anyone have a tq/hp graph?

Search around, there's a few dyno graphs on here - I believe in some of the threads evaluating the feasibility of putting the 3VZFE (Camry) heads on a 3VZE...

I have the same question after going up to Keystone this past weekend. I was concerned about running above 3000 rpm for extended periods and was getting passed by everyone headed up over loveland. I had no idea the powerband was that high.
