22re EGR question - simple
OK guys should be an easy one for ya. I was under the impression that if I pulled the hose off my egr and plugged it with my finger it should make the engine sputter or possibly die.
I tried this with both hoses coming off the EGR (big and small) also tried plugging both of them and the truck still runs the same.
Hoping I found my problem...thanks for looking.
If any moderators read this I posted up all the problems w/ my truck in the wrong forum. Since I'm new to Toyotas and not much of a mechanic it probably belongs over here...thanks.
Edit: I have tried for hours reading about this EGR valve and modulator. I just want to know if I understand this correctly.

Did you read what the FSM has to say about it?

Yes, I did. Specifically test #6. I believe I am performing this test when I plug the larger hose coming off the EGR valve. I am not sure though. I don't have a vacuum gauge but I may go to the auto parts store and try.
I was just down there and did a compression check. 150,135,150,115. Not too bad I suppose? The guy behind the counter recommended I pull each spark plug wire to see if one cylinder wasn't working. Bingo!!! Cylinder #1 was 150psi, had oil blow-by on brand new NGK plugs, and nothing happened when I pulled the spark plug wire. Btw, this wire shocked the ˟˟˟˟ out of me so I know it getting juice...talk about taking one for the team!
I am a bit concerned that I may have used cheap parts when replacing the spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. I replaced them before I read up on how much Toyotas need the good OEM parts. I believe all the parts were import direct. I did put NGK sparks in luckily after doing some reading.
Thanks

150 vs. 115 is horrible, what you want is all readings to be within a certain percent, maybe 10%?
the basic egr test involves putting vacuum on the egr port, not plugging something up... even just sucking on the hose going to the egr port should cause the motor to stumble at idle.
