1999 suspension upgrade on my 1997 4Runner
Hey guys, I've done some searching and can't quite get to the bottom of this myself. What say you to upgrading the suspension to the 1999 stuff? Comes off a Runner with @ 100,000 miles on it. OEM Equipment provided (for a few hundred bucks) is:
Front coil spring and strut with hardware.
Rear coil spring and shock absorber.
I might be dreaming here, but I'd like to get down to Moab some day and would like to get on a few trails without destroying my Runner. I'm in the pacific northwest and my stock suspension is good for most of the logging roads I go on, but more would probably be better.
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm looking for a mild lift with an eye on the mighty dollar (and my lack of it).
Thanks!

I can add that my 1999 4runner with 117,000 still sits pretty tall. I do not think my springs have lost any height.
Watch for rust on the top of the rear shock mount. Make sure the the threads are ok. If not, you'll just need new shocks.
I think you should only pay $150-$200 for that stuff. Also try to make sure the 1999 springs you are getting are the "tall' ones. I'm not sure how to do that but I think some 1999's had shorter coils than others.

Thought that I'd add that I'd like to maybe get down to Moab someday and drive some trails without destroying my 'Runner. I'm located in the Pacific Northwest and usually drive logging roads. The stock set up is pretty good but more is probably better. What type of gains do you think swapping to the '99 stuff would give?
