1985 Toyota 4x4 Help with stalling/sputtering
Ok Im new to the Toyota world. I bought a 1985 xtra cab last weekend. I am fairly mechanically inclined and have always worked on my own stuff. The truck sputters and backfires under load. It only wants to move in 4H or it really bogs and sputters. I did find the intake tube was falling apart so Ill replace that along with cap/rotor, plugs, wires, o2 sensor this weekend. Im also going to check timing. The question I have is for the diagnostic port. I placed the jumper on the round test port and I dont get a blinking check engine light to pull codes the light stays solid. Can anyone point me in the right direction? sorry for the long read and thanks for any help!!

My 86 has the sensor in the exhaust manifold so am fairly sure yours should be there as well. Below is the port for your diag test. I used a wire but you should use a paper clip instead. Are you sure it is getting a good connection? Is bulb in and good on guage?
Posting both Jumper diags for some others that migh look up codes but yours is on the bottom.

How to get Check Engine Codes. I just put this up for others. Applies to 87 and up. 86 and older is the bottom picture.
The Diagnostic port for the 85-86 is on the Drivers side inner fender and is nothing the same as the 87 and up. Here is T1 and E1 jumped. The codes and engine flashes are the same as the rest of the trucks on the dash.

I was pretty sure of where the O2 sensor should have been. Hell I looked from head to muffler and there is no O2 sensor. The previous owner put a header on it and there is no bung or sensor anywhere. As for the test port. I jumped it just like in the bottom picture and the check engine light just stays solid...never blinks. Im going to get a multimeter tomorrow and do some more trouble shooting.
