X-reas suspension Removal

X-reas suspension Removal
How difficult is the X-reas to remove? I have been told the spacer are not the best idea for a lift. Any help would be great

Its not bad at all. I helped another person on this forum do it and it wasn't a big deal. Another option is to remove the xreas lines from the struts and shocks and cap them with a fitting cap and tie the whole system up to the frame with wire ties or something of that nature. Not as clean but it will work.

Okay,I am still not 100% sure what is different about it from the systems with out xreas. If I remove it, I would like to install a coilover suspension lift. Thanks for the reply.

XREAS is a linked shock system. Opposite shocks are linked by tubes that are filled with oil. The opposite shocks are co-dependant on each other.
Non XREAS meabs the shock stand seperate from each other - there is no dependancy on each other - they all work independantly.
I disconnected my XREAS lines, capped them and installed OME shocks and coils. Later I pulled all the tubes off because the OME setup is so much better than XREAS that I knew I wasn't going back.
It took me about 1/2 hr to seperate the lines from the chassis and pull them out - mostly held on by clips and small screws as I recall.
Coilovers are cool! You won't regret it. Tons of people have done this mod.

All you are doing is unscrewing the connectors that link the tubes that run along the chassis to the tubes that connect to the shocks. After that, its just a matter of disconnecting and removing and the shocks and coils and doing whatever instal you have planned. To remove the lines from the chassis its pretty much just unclipping and unscrewing in a couple of places. You have to undo a couple of bolts to reove the master cylinder which is about mid way along the chassis rail as I remember. I was able to pull out all my lines with no damage and sold them to some one who needed replacements.

Haha, I will be doing that soon. My XREAS front strut was leaking oil during my Cornfed install. Wonder how long it had been leaking? I will definately go with an OME.

Replace 04 runner suspension
I have a '04 runner sport with the X-REAS suspension. One shock is leaking and the dealer charges about 2 grand to replace shock and the alternate. Can I remove the X-REAS shocks and struts and replace them with regular ones without having to make adjustments to my computer or anything? Please Advise.

Yes, you can. I ended up going to a shop that specializes in lifts for trucks and they put an aftermarket system in. The ride is much better than it was stock and it was about 1/4 the price.

X-REAS is a purely mechanical system, the simplest explanation is that it is a conventional coilover with the exception that all of the shocks are linked with hydraulic lines.
FYI: I have had my spacer lift on my X-REAS for several years without any problems and with some occassional severe abuse. Keep in mind I did this knowing the possibility of having to replace my suspension.

it is a very easy job to remove it. I took mine out in about 20 minutes and I am running Donahoes all around. (now called ICON) and Camburg Upper Control Arms. This is by far a much better setup than the xreas was and I am very happy with both the on road handling and off-road capabilities. I sell both OME and ICON, Camburg and I would recommend any of these as an alternative to replacing the factory xreas system. Good luck with yours and let me know if I can be of any assistance.
