Tacoma or Tundra?

Hopefully I am posting this question in the correct thread ...
I am selling the ole 4runner and buying a new truck. But I am totally tossed on which to get. I am looking at either the V6 4dr Access Cab 4WD Tacoma, or the SR5 4dr Double Cab 4WD (5.7L 8cyl 6A) Tundra (TRD packages and all of the "goodies" on both). Normally I would say that the Tundra was just too big ... but with only about a 4k difference in price AND the 0.0% financing ... I just cant over look the tundra. This will primarily be my truck that I mostly just drive around town with my 1 year old daughter. I don't 4x4 much, but that has only been because I never felt the 4runner was really in the condition to do so. I VERY much want to get off road though with my new vehicle. You guys have helped me very much with advise on my 4runner in the past - I thought i get get your 2 cents on my most recent dilemma.

Thanks in advance!

Tacoma.

For me, I prefer a smaller truck. I do go off road, and while a full size truck will go many places, there's some places a smaller truck just fits better. And it's easier to park a smaller truck.

I see that for the Tundra, you are considering the Double Cab, while for the Tacoma, you are only considering the Access Cab. I would consider a Double Cab Tacoma instead (which I have). It has plenty of interior room, there's so much underseat and behind seat storage that the only things I have to keep in the bed are a High Lift jack and some boards in case I get stuck (for comparison purposes I'm not sure how much storage is in the rear of the Tacoma Access Cab), and it's width and length won't be as much of an issue off road as it would be with the Tundra.

I understand your price concerns. But also consider that the V6 Tacoma will get more MPG, which will help save you even more money down the road. Last weekend my daughter and I took a 380 mile round trip (mostly interstate), and I averaged 20.98 MPG.

And even with the 0% financing (be careful, you may end up paying a fee to get the 0% rate, or they may not discount as much when it comes time to negotiate), the higher priced Tundra would most likely end up costing more than the cheaper Tacoma. If you have good enough credit, you can still negotiate a nice low rate for the Tacoma.

I would get the Tacoma doublecab also for the same reasons as William says plus the Tundra is in its first year for the new model so expect bugs.

If you have the money, I'd see about importing a Vigo Hilux with the diesel engine...

If your worried about the size of the new Tundra, buy an 06 Tundra DC with the 4.7L V8. Thats what I have and it is the perfect size, perfect power, perfect everything! There are some great deals out there if you spend some time searching.

I just purchased a 2007 Double cab long bed Tacoma. This truck is mostly for my wife. If you will tow alot I would get the Tundra if you just want a good truck that can tow a little get the Tacoma. The best you will get for Financing on the tacoma will be 3.9 for 3 years. Or 5.9 for 5. Some banks offer better than the 5.9 but are few and far between. We got the long box because I carry alot of building supplies and the extra 13 inches in the bed doesn't hurt. All in all though this is a very big truck compared to My 90 extra cab. I do like this truck alot and it drives and rides great it has the tow package and will tow 6500 lbs. Good luck in deciding the important thing is you are getting another Toyota.

Although importing would be awesome if it worked, I think you'd have a nice car sitting in customs for a very long time do to the emission standards in this country. I personally like the looks of the Taco over the new Tundras. I think the 08 Tundras almost look just like a Ford from the front. "Fords are way cheaper in both ways" Most of the dealers are offering 0% or the cash back option. It's the usual BS gimicks with either. I've been toying with the idea of gettin rid of my runner just becasue I'm tired of not enough power! Post up some picks of what ever you get! And how much you end up spending. I think it would be interesting to see what people are paying around the country. Peace!

I just hit the 2 year anniversary with my '05 Tacoma, 23K miles later I love it. I can fit the family of 5 in it, canopy on the back for the dogs. However if hindsight was 20/20 though I would have got a Tundra just because I find myself in need of more tow capacity. Drive them both. The car seat in the back of the access cab from what I have heard is not the best as far as being able to get the child carseat in properly.
With 285's and the weight of ARB bumper/sliders etc I am averaging 16 around town (not adjusted).
If you are thinking of using your truck off road, than get the 'smaller' Tacoma. but after wheeling my '05 a few times I ended up getting an '81, it is about a 10" narrower than the Tacoma and fits between trees a lot better

IMO, get the Tundra Double Cab. I never understood why Tacoma's cost so much. And BTW, to whoever said it, the Tundra "Double cab" is an Extended Cab, not a Crew Cab, they have a regular cab, double cab, and a 'Crew-Max' cab, like Tacoma has a regular, access, and double cab.

The new Tundra is one of two recommended trucks by Consumer Reports. The other is the Dodge. All other domestics were far behind these two.

i think the new tacoma is much better looking then the tundra i think the tacoma will get you a lot farther then the tundra will. also when you get your tundra stuck nothing less then a semi will be able to get you out.
