Noise when shifting into 4wd?

Hey guys,

Any ideas on why sometimes there is a grinding noise for a second when I shift into 4HI from 2HI? It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, it last for a second or two.

The vehicle is a 2005 4Runner V6 Automatic 4x4.

Thanks in advance.

I would recommend you be driving straight ahead and let vehicle free wheel, much like you would shifting a bike with a derailleur. I find it makes less noise doing so.
