Question ATRAC Questions

Since there is a thread on Center Differential Locks started See Thread I'll ask about ATRAC.

What is ATRAC? How does it work? My brochure says that the 4runner comes with ATRAC, but there is no button for it. My dad's FJ has a button to engage it . Does this mean ATRAC is on all the time in my runner as opposed to my dad's FJ?

ATRAC is all wheel traction control. It's supposed to keep you moving if only 1 wheel has traction, it uses the brakes to stop any wheel that's slipping. I find it works quite well, but only if you're easy on the skinny pedal. Try and use too much gas and it tends to stop all the wheels and you go nowhere. I've had 2 wheels off the ground and they both stopped turning very quickly and I kept moving.

In the 4wd Runner's the ATRAC is on all the time, there is no 'Off' button, but the 2wd's do, go figure. If you want to disable it search for the 'Andy Mod'.
