Weighing my runner options. Newbie Help

Hello, I'm looking at two trucks. Need any input. The first is an 87 runner that has 282K on the body (rough but no rust) and a freshly rebuilt 22re (clutch and all). I'm real close to buying it for $2,000

Just found this other one on craigslist in a bit better shape but with engine problems. Kinda Opened ended with "spun rod bearing"
Whats the max/min it would cost to get it running? THANKS

"1989 Toyota 4 Runner mudder. Body in good condition, 186k miles, interior in great condition. Power windows, power door locks, AC, Sunroof, large tires, upgraded rims ,fun toy vehicle for mudding or sand dunes. Canopy lifts off for instant pickup truck. Needs new rod bearing. $1600 OBO"

I would go with the '87, but I would want to look over the rebuild reciepts, and all. Why is he selling it for $2k, with a fresh motor?

oopss I meant 2200. Basic auto zone rebuild. sounds tight pulls hard. just a surging idle half the time
