I have an 89 4runner with a mild lift and 32's w4.56 gears and a Truetrac in the rear. I have an extra front diff and I was debating on putting a true trac in it and swapping it out for the open thats currently installed and I wanted some opinions from people that have a front locker/lsd. This truck is my DD and its a pretty tough weekend warrior but should I spend the extra 500 bucks to get the front locker or does the cost-to-benefit ratio not make sense?

I use a detroit in the rear and a Lock-Rite in the front and it performs beautifully off-road. I feel like the truck is unstopable right now. So far I am extremely impressed with both of the lockers.

not sure what a true trac is, but if your trucks doing great, i wouldnt spend the cash unless it needs it. look around. i always say if its not broken, dont fix it. you know?

Two summers ago I went from open 4.10's to a Trutrac up front and a lock-rite out back with 4.88's. BIG difference offroad.

This summer I knew I was moving into the city and so I switched out my lockrite with an open 4.88.

I've driven open 4x4 offroad and now with just the limited slip up front it still does alot better than open.

But it is pricey considering that for just a little more money you could get an ARB

I like my TrueTrac up front. Works great and it doesn't mess with your steering. Got a detroit in the back.

while it is certainly better than open, I find the front trutrac on my SAS trail rig to be just aggravating compared to the "DD" rig that has ARB's front/rear. It "locks" when you don't really want it to, and won't lock when you really need it to (wheel in the air).

Save up an extra couple months and put in an ARB.

I have had great success with my truetrac both in the front and rear axles. As long as you are not a serious rock crawler or anything you will love it. I like the feel you get from the extra pulling power. When one wheel is raised or two wheels, i usually just tap on the brake pedal and the truetrac will fully engage. It almost locks up. My opinion is that i am very impressed with it. Ask me if you have any more questions.

I have wanted to comment on my Tru-Trac for some time, I have a 97 Runner with a Tru-Trac up front and an E-locker in back. I got mine for 100.00 when I re-geared...at that price it was worth it to have something other than the open diff, however the Tru-Trac WILL NOT make or break a climb. If your rig is cabable of the climb it will simply make it easier, it won't be the deciding factor. I would NOT reccommend one, for the money go for an Aussie or an ARB. If you install one you will wheel "easier" but you really don't increase the capability of your truck.
