transmission swap?

transmission swap?
I'm sorry to even post this, but I have done searches on here, pirate and google, tried different things from trans, tranny, transmission, and a variety of auto and manual terms.
I'm looking for a good thread that shows everything needed. Some info such as gauge cluster compatibility, and clutch info. Wiring.
My truck is an 87 22re, I'm looking at spending a chunk of my tax money on what looks to be a w 56c trans. I've already got a flywheel, clutch/brake pedal assembly, and new master and slave on the way. I know about the small stuff that mechanically is necessary. But a nice thread/build up would be awesome.
Thanks guys. I can't wait to pull my POS auto out of my yota.

The biggest things to worry about are -
the speed sensor- you have a mechanical/cable driven speedometer/odometer so you'd need the right part for the cable to hook to the output... I'm not sure about how that works
the shift lever boots to the cab- the plate that bolts onto the tunnel that lets the shift levers come through
As far as I know, beyond those two things, it's all plug and play.

The plate with the boots is something I'm having a hard time locating. I'm not certain if it is the same for forward and or top shift tcases.
I was assuming both man and auto trans would use the same cable. I've not seen anything regarding that on any page I've found.
I've since posting this found a few pages. But most are people asing about the swap and being told to search. I've done a ton of searching and still have unanswered questions.
Thanks guys

I just finished doing mine yesterday. Huge improvement! I'm not about to do a right up, but if you have any specific questions, ask away.
The cable was the same. I used a top shift W56 case from an 85. As long as your donor trans has a mechanical speedo, your fine.
I grabbed a shift boot from a V6 R150. It is close, but not quite right. It pulls on the transfer case shifter to much. The top shift deff. Uses a diff boot than the froward shift.
The only wiring you MUST do is to bridge the neutral safety switch. Mine was already jumped, so I'm no help there. The auto gauge cluster works fine.
The swap was pretty easy.
Good luck!

i think you will need to swap ecu's to a man trans one of the same year as your truck. the only other electronics on the man is the nuetral start switch that i can remember.

I dont mind messing with the reverse light wire were the shifter is in side the cab. I would like to use the manual computer and just have the transmission plug into it directly. If ou could help me do that would be great and ill give the guy 250 for the transmission with all the extra's. If not thanks for your help anyway. I appreciate it.

Since the a/b were supposedly used through 88, and the c/d/e in 89+, I suppose (and don't quote me on this) that if you can find an 89 4Runner with a 22re, it should have a C in it, and thus the plate you need.
DeathCougar or WaskillyWabbit could probably clarify this possibility.

stryker, what area are you in? I'll be wanting to get rid of the trans and shifter assembly after the swap.
Anyone have an 89 and up truck with a w56c,d,e? If you do would you please take a picture of the shift boots, don't care if its installed or the carpet is pulled back (preferred). But if you can would you measure the center to center of the shifters at the top of the boots while both are in neutral.
