Tranny/t-case fluid

Okay... kind of a newbie question, but here goes:

Are the manual tranny and transfer case separate as far as fluid is concerned? Like, I can fill/check either box and it does not affect the other? For some reason I keep having this thought that they sort of spill over to each other. Can anyone speak to this?

yep, one does not affect the other. there is a seal on the shaft that connects them.
