I've been wondering the same thing. I was thinking about bolting the sub in from under the truck when I get it . And I really like the ammo box idea, and the locking center console. And I've seen ammo box's online.

Any local Home Depot or Lowes will carry a lockable storage box in a pretty good size. I've got one a bit bigger than a cooler that's made of a durable plastic. It locks with a couple of pad locks. I mounted it from the bottom with 4 bolts that pass through the bed into the box where I use wing-nuts to secure them. It's waterproof should I get stuck in the rain. And while plastic, it's durable enough that you're going to make a lot of racket and be noticeable trying to break into it. Even so, the also make the same box in aluminum...but it's cost a lot more. Here's what I'm talking about...

I was just thinking, metal straps hooked up to a hidden battery with a quick connect/disconnect? So every time someone tries to grap your stuff they get zapped?

I dont worry too much up here in North Idaho.
Everybody packs heat, and everybody knows it.
I throw a sheet over my sub with the top off, and its a shallow mount so its not super obvious. Im just not stupid where I thump my tunes either.

Got the storage problem solved..Leave it to walmart. lol..Went to the army surplus store down the street and checked out ammo boxes, I didn't think they would be big enough so I continued the search. Went to bass pro shop/outdoor world, love that place but no luck..Home depot, too expensive then tried walmart and found this badboy for $17.88!! Stopped by ace for some hardware, going to drill some holes and bolt it down.

thats a good idea.. hmm the only thing im worried about is my rear speakers.. i mounted them into the rear/side cupholder area.. And i dont think it would take much for someone to undo some screws and have some nice speakers..
Maybe a alarm/remote starter would be nice?

Its in and mounted..pulled the 23 year old carpet out of the back too lol, stuff was nasty so now its just like a truck bed. Eventually I'll get around to doing some rhino lining or something similar.

imho something metal would offer more protection. i have sheetrock knives that would dance through that plastic , and one whack with anything heavier than a crescent wrench on those clasps and its over ..

It will have a lock on it to. If they're that determined to get in there that they're going to cut it up...Well thats their problem because I doubt theres much of anything in there they'd be interested in. A metal box of that size would be vastly more expensive..Not too worried about it...It should be detterrant enough for your typical lazy thief.

This one is pretty beef, it's what I keep my M4 in. Fairly cheap though. And there's no way in hell you could cut through it with a knife, unless you're a samurai.

The clasps on the outside are fairly hefty, and you can put two padlocks on it.

It's weatherproof too.

And it wouldn't dent or get paint chips.

I think I might put some in my bed...

It's like my locksmith father says, if you really want in and have enough time, any lock is breakable. If someone really wants to steal your s***, they'll just walk up with a cordless cut off wheel and go to town on even a metal box. Or break your window and steal the whole car.

here's a pull out drawer i built for about $100. but if your looking for something a little easier, i'd say a cargo net. thats what my bro is running.

^ I've been tossing around that idea for a while now. I'd love to build one, but I haul stuff alot...like scrap and whatnot. Thats a big commitment to give up my hauling capabilities for storage. Even though alot of my general stuff I keep on hand (fluids, tow chains, some spare parts, etc.) is cluttered in the back. Plus I have my full size spare in the back :/

no, i love it. the drawer's divided in two for tools on one side, and repairs and fluids on the other. i just miss being able to put the seats down and sleep in the back. and think i went about 2-3 inches to tall. but everything's well organized.

a couple years ago petersens 4wor did an amazing article on secure storage. i cant find the issue but i believe it was done in a soft topped bronco. they had some upright toolbox that had slide out drawers that fit between the wheelwell and the tailgate and was only as wide as the wheelwell. i dont remember who makes it but id kill to find out. any ideas? i have an email into them to find out if you guys dont know and ill post back what i find out.
