Tire slime
What do you guys think of tire slime tire sealant? I know it works wonders for bike tires, but are there any negative affects with using it in car tires? I know more tire shops wont dispose of fix your tire(s) if you have this stuff in them.
Does anyone use this, or is this stuff frowned upon?

It is usualy not to be used in high speed vehicles. Good for the ATV or old tractor that doesnt travel at high speeds. It would probably throw the wheel out of balance as this stuff globs up to one side at high speeds. It would be good in a trail rig that doesnt hit the pavement.

When I'm a few hundred miles from civilization, I don't really care how much I saved if my truck fails me.
Tires take a beating. If they aren't in top shape before you hit the trail, don't hit the trail. If they fail you on the trail Tire Slime won't give you anything a proper puncture repair kit can't give you, but if your tire's got that slime in it, it's gonna be harder to repair.
I don't really understand the advertisement about the guys racing with the stuff in their tires.... "This is the good stuff" then you watch 3 minutes of them applying "slime" stickers to their car...
If it was the "good stuff" you'd expect more info than that.

I have just had bad luck with every tire i have owned. Even brand new tired I get end up getting punctured from a screw or a nail. I even pulled a drill bit from my tire a few years back. I had a set of tires destroyed because the construction workers here wouldn't clean up after themselves when they were building my parent's neighborhood. So when I buy new tired for my truck, i want to do something to prevent me from patching my tire every time I park the thing.
I don't think this stuff could gob to one side of the tire, can it? Don't the instructions say to only put a certain amount in to avoid this affect?
One of my neighbors swore by this stuff in his motorcycle.

You really need to learn to use a puncture repair kit then. it probably takes less time to plug a hole than it does to use that goop. You can pick them up for less than 10 bucks at any auto supply store.
Here's a good link. http://www.off-road-outdoors.com/tire-repair.html

I have a tire plug kit that I keep in the back of the truck. I'm just tired of using it when it's really unnecessary.
To me, if i get a flat doing nothing fun...it's unnecessary.
If I get a flat doing some off-roading and having fun...it would have been worth it.

You cant balace a tire with slime in it for a while. It stays a liquid and throws the machine off. It works as a sealant, but it makes a mess if you have to break down the tirs.

When I had my '97 Firebird I used some of this stuff on a I believe 245/45/17 or possibly a 275/40/17, can't really remember if it was front or rear. However, I used some of that stuff to seal up a tire for a few months and it worked great. Says it shouldn't be used at highway speeds but I did for a few months until I got new wheels/tires. Probably not the smartest idea but I don't really see the harm in it. However, I would not have used that stuff with my current tires (31x10.50r15) because of the size although I'm sure it would work the same. I would just suggest getting a patch kit or carrying a spare (I do both). Haven't had to use the patch kit, but I hear they work well if not better than the Slime stuff.
