Swapping a 91 3VZ into a 95 4Runner
I am hopefully going to look at a Runner this weekend, but it is in need of a new motor. It was a V6 and I have a rebuilt V6 out of a 91 pickup with only 20,000 miles on it.
I read one thread where a guy had troubles with a similar swap. Someone mentioned there were a few subtle differences between the early 3VZ's and the later ones, but I forget what they said. I did some research and found the tensioner for the timing chain on the later 3VZ's is hydraulic where the earlier ones have a spring tensioner. Thus, the heads are machined differently. There was also a difference in the locator of the distributor, but I found nothing that should give someone serious problems.
I wanted to know if their is any othe differences I should know about? I have the pickup that the motor is coming out of, so I should have all the parts to remedy any problems.
This would be my first engine swap, so I'd be grateful for any other advice as well.
