Angry Someone Locked My Hubs...

... and I just found out today after hearing some crazy grinding/clunking noise coming from the driver front side. As soon as I heard it, I pulled over and saw that the hubs had been locked. I have driven the truck only a couple times in the past couple days, totaling about 20 miles. Have I hurt the hub? If so, any suggestions as to the best way to fix it? Thanks a ton in advance!!

Ummm - what kind of truck is this? What, if any mods have been done?

Generally, driving with the hubs locked is no problem. Hell, all the ADD trucks are essntially locked hubs all the time.

I keep my hubs locked all winter, just in case..

I drive with the hubs locked for days...or did on my 87...no sweat. You might have other issues, but I doubt you hurt the hub from having it locked, it might just have revealed another problem.

Inspect. Remove. Repair if necessary.

Sorry... lol

It's an '86 PU with a 22R.

When I unlocked the hub, it made a "clunk". I drove it home with no issues or further noises, so I'm hopeful that it's ok. I might pull it apart, though, just to totaly ease my mind.

if you're getting a noise maybe the cv is shot? driving with it locked is fine. Last winter i drove 650 miles home from school with the hubs locked because when i left from maine it was a snowstorm, and had no issues.

No worries...

ADD does work differently than manual hubs but that has to do with the differential.

I wouldnt worry about it.. I wouldnt hit the freeway with mine locked but driving around town definetly won't do a lick to em.

besides the hub wont go, the CV joints will long before the hub has issues. Those ASIN hubs are tough summaguns! .. besides its just one gear, that slides into a bigger gear =)

****
ironic someone locked ur hubs.. I generally check my hubs before leaving any place I park the rig other than my house because kids will be kids and think that crap is funny. LOL... hasnt happened to me yet.. knock on wood

THat may be a dumb question, but were you in 4WD and you 100% sure the noise was coming from the driver front side?

Was it just one of the hubs locked? I accidently drove my old scout that way once and it made noise like you describe. I still can't quite picture what was going on inside there that made noise but it did.

With the metric conversion, that's only like 15 miles though, right?
