I wanna do away with my A/C system totally. Anyone else done this? Can I do it without effecting my heating system, because I want to keep my heat? THis is on an 87 4 runner with 22re, and auto trans if that matters. Can I just plug the hoses and be done with it and toss the compressor? Any input would be much appreciated.

Yes, you can remove most of the A/C system without any problem with your heat or anything else for that matter. The compressor, condensor, hoses, etc. can come out. Block off the lines going into the firewall to keep dirt and critters out of them. Take care of what you remove, and store them or sell them. If the A/C works right now, I would definitely put the comperssor in a ziploc bag and keep it safe, and cap off the lines you take out for storage. Of course the question comes to mind, why take it out? My 87 SR5 4Runner was born without A/C, and I would be tickled if it had it. Oh, well.

Sweet. I just don't use it is why. It is one more thing putting drag on the motor, takin up space in the engine bay, and one more thing that can go wrong. Plus I have an 07 taco that has really cold a/c for those nasty hot days. I will have the top off this thing all summer anyhow.

if you dont want to totally take it off, you could just take off the belt running to the ac compressor

If you want to ditch the evap housing, I have a non-AC housing that should fit.

there is an air duct/housing that goes where the evaporator is.

If you go to it you can probably get it all off in an hour or so.

Yeah, I have the motor out right now so I figured it would be the easiest time to ditch the system. I don't know what the evap housing is, sorry. I am still learning.

The evaporator housing is the piece of duct work under the passenger side dash that has the hose connections going through the firewall, and a radiator looking unit inside the duct.

A poster a couple up said that he had the non A/C duct available. That would replace the evaporator duct, keep your heat intact, and save you a little more weight, as well as prevent the radiator fins from getting plugged up by anything (and preventing airflow through it).

If the A/C is in working order, you could probably sell all the pieces to someone without, as a complete kit.
