Im trying to replace a busted lock cylinder on my drivers side door. I can't figure out how to remove the panel!

I have removed all bolts/ plastic clips but I cant figure out how to remove the interior handle and the window crank.

Hopfally I can get some help within the next hour or so, dont want to get shut down by the sun..

I have never worked on the interior of a 3rd gen but here is how you do it for most. There is a retaining clip that hold the crank on. If you push the panel into the door as much as possible you can see it. There is a special tool that is used to remove it but you can also just use a small screwdriver. All you have to do is push the clip part way off and the crank will slide off. The door handle should have a screw that holds it in place. Once the screw is out you will have to push the handle in one direction to pop it out. I cant remember which way. Hope this helps.

some of the handle "backings" are very difficult to get out. Just be patient. As for the window crank, I have had luck using a piece of cloth pulling up behind the handle to get the snap-ring off.

Well I think I understand. Im used to fords where you just pop off the cover and remove the one bolt. easy!

I can see the little plastic round dealie behind the crank but I cant really "get" to it. IF anyone can supply some pictures of the parts that would be sweet. Those PDF's are pretty vague about it.

Well I ended up figuring out the door handle and was able to rotate the panel away so I could get accsess to the handle and the rods.
Got the new cylinder put in, Its nice to have a working door lock again after 11 months, dont have to crawl over the passenger seat to unlock it

I was just going to mention that as an option Jay...
I know what you mean about the doorlock thing mine was messed up by the painter I had to pop the cylider out and loose the little "door" that covers the keyway... probably have to put a new cylinder in there after the winter but til then...

Sure is a pain to get that panel off. I can take the panel off our f-150 work truck in about 2 mins ( window falls off the track often).

Still am pretty vague about the window crank. Hopfally we can get some pictures up. I will take some detailed pictures when/if I get the chance to remove mine.

swap over to power windows, it just pops off w/the plastic clips and lifts up/off.

the hardest part was removing the door openers plastic wrap (easy)
then, its just unplugging the door light, and power window switch (easy)

See, I dont see any little snap ring like that... Just a plastic washer.

The plastic washer is just there to protect the door panel from the handle. The clip will be very hard to see as directly behind the crank. You can try the cloth method as others have suggested. What I do is push very hard on the door panel so there is some space to see what is going on. You will need to be looking directly down on it in order to see the clip. Turn the crank until you see the two ends of the clip and then push on both ends of the clip to pop it off.

i used a sock, just slip it behind the crank and pull.

or just go to lordco man ask for the tool its like 7 bucks (KD makes it).. its not a great quality tool but itll do the job and makes life so much easier

I was at lordco today too! Trying to find a bolt to replace the one I snapped this morning on my negitive battery termanel

I also have one of these. Makes getting those hidden clips off real easy. Most of the time without breaking them.

Thanks for the picture of the crown vic... Next time I come over I will use the tool and fix my window crank.
