Reman power steering pumps and some PS Qs

My PS pump is taking a dump, doesn't like to work unless the truck is moving and especially with tires wedged up on stuff offroad.

So I was just going to go to advance and get a new pump. They have these Cardone ones for like $60. Does anyone have one of these things? It has a lifetime warranty so it can be replaced for free but I don't want to go through that hassle really.

I also have a leak in my steering box at the input where the steeting shaft connects. Is that seal replaceable?

I do belive that Toyota offers a rebuild kit for the pump and possibly both of these parts. Give them a call and find out.

I know the rebuild kits fix leaks but will they fix a PS pump that isn't working?

I had a leak in my v6 power steering pump and tried to rebuild it with a seal kit from toyota. Ended up bending pulley during removal since it was rusted on there. Anyway long story short, I went with the Cardone remanufactured pump from kragen. It works good so far, but I only have about 500 miles on it. My reservoir was also leaking so I had to replace that with dealer issue part.

The rebuild kits will not fix a pump that isn't working. I assume you might have fried it by using power steering fluid and not ATF. Make sure you use ATF in the new pump. The rebuld kit is basically just a bunch of o-rings, front seal, etc. If the the shaft is wobbling or out of round then the kit won't help with that.

So go with the cardone and you should be fine. Yes you can rebuild the steering gear box. Here is a link that should help.

Nah I'm running ATF. The thing has just started to fart out.. unless it's my steering box that's causing the problem, but I'm going to start by replacing the pump.
