Rear pinion seal size

I developed a leak from the rear pinion seal on my '94 2WD plane-jane pickup. The vent seemed to be plugged but cleaning it didn't solve the problem (dang.) It's definitely the seal that's leaking.

Does anyone know the size of the seal off-hand? Any online sources in came my local NAPA can't get it?

thanks

Frank

The closest dealer is about 1.5 hours from here.

Turns out my local (15 mile) NAPA has it in stock...

Stay away from cheap online parts. After getting a bunk oil pump and destroying a fresh built engine Im done trying to save money. You will just end up replacing it later with a good seal. Go to toyota. The rear seal should only be like 15 bucks, if that.

It's made by SKF so I'm hoping it'll last. I was doing back-of-the-envelope calculations on how long the original lasted (3,000 driveshaft-rpm/mile * 200,000 miles ~ 600 million revolutions it lasted.) It probably would have worked longer but the vent was plugged and I've been running synthetic oil the last 1000 miles or so....

Do you guys install them dry or use a bit of RTV or non-hardening sealer?

Dry.. Probably not a bad idea to pick up a spare seal or two for the trail tool box...

Do you have a seal driver kit? I made my own

I just did my seal last weekend because I am re-gearing
here is the part number for the Advanced Auto Parts store. SKU # 18442427 MFG # N1177

I applied a little bit of silicone to the outer surface for ease of installation and a little bit of clean engine oil to the inner face. It took some banging but it went in ok.
hope this helps.
