Both my door locks are busted from people trying to break in, and dont work...

What do you guys recommend I do? It seems like it would be awesome if I could get the locks the same as my key for the ignition, so Ic ould just use 1 key. Do I go through Toyota for the locks or what?

Local locksmith can fix them or make new ones to your key.

x2 for what wabbit said and if you need another key and yours is too far gone to make a copy go to the dealer and get another with your vin #. Did that a couple months ago.

With a truck this old I would buy new door locks install them yourself then have the ignition rekeyed to fit the new door locks.

Cheaper to rekey one then 2 cylinders.

I went to toyota because I cant even open my back window with my key. It would be like $405 from them for cylinders both front doors, the ignition, the glove box, the tailgate, and two copies of the new key. The new set will not match your VIN for key cutting purposes, so get extras made.

If your original key still works fine in the ignition and rear, it's not hard to rekey your replacement door locks to match. You might get lucky and be able to transfer the parts from your old locks. Otherwise a locksmith can rekey them before you install them for cheap and all they will need is your VIN. Might as well have them make you a new key or two while they've got your key code up. This will be a properly cut key and not a gun stamped one like most dealers will sell you

I know this is wrong, but this worked for me in a pinch. I took out the door lock cylinder, put the ignition key in it, then filed the wafers down flush with the cylinder. Because some wafers slide up when the key is inserted and some slide down, when the key is removed it wont turn(like it should). Now the one key works in the doors and the ignition..

This is easy to fix.

Remove all your lock cylinders. It's not hard. Mine were all different for whatever reason, ignition, 2 doors and rear window. Only one that matched OEM code on passenger lock was that lock and it was busted. Locksmith rekeyed them all to match ignition cylinder and fixed busted lock for under $50. No need to get all new stuff if you find a competent locksmith. Call you dealer and ask them who they use.

The key code should be on your passenger side door lock cylinder. Grab that code, bring it to a locksmith or your local Toyota dealer and have them set up the new cylinders to your key code.

My driver's side lock was different when purchased my truck 5.5 years ago. It took all of six months for me to get sick of using a separate key to get in and start the truck. Well worth the money. (and it was cheap anyway)

last year i snagged an ignition switch and 2 door lock cyls with 1 key off of ebay for ~$50.

absolutely worth it. except i put it in a 4runner and now i can't open the back window from the outside
