Question about blown head gaskets
When you have a blown head gasket. You get water into your oil so it gets all milky.
And you get white foamy stuff on ur oil cap right?

Yup. Atleast that's what my symptoms were. besides the obvious oil burning on the side of the engine where it was leaking.
Be prepared. This isn't a cheap fix. I had a buddy of mine do it in his pro shop. No breaks $1300. That price included him sending them to a machine shop to have them checked thoroughly for cracks and to machine a new surface on them. Plus replacing ALL the head bolts. Once you break them bolts loose from factory specs, their non usable again. They stretch.
Here's another tip. For another $100,change your O2 sensor if you have the heads redone.
I found this out about a month later. My check engine light was staying on after the head job. Never stayed on before this. Heads were machined. yeah, very little, but apperently enough to change the way the O2 sensor read. My engine ran fine. Just got tired of seeing the check engine light on allt he time.

Those were the symptoms of mine although it could also mean that your timing chain wore through the cover because the driver side chain guide broke. Either way, do not run the engine with coolant in the oil because it will toast your bearings and you will need to rebuild the engine or if you go ghetto style, the crank bearings. Another way to check the HG is to test the coolant for oil/emissions. Other than that, I don't know much

If mine had less than 100k miles I would just do the head gasket but at 240k with a slight knock I just decided to go with a new engine. If mine was a 3.0 I'd just sell it or if I had a mildly disposable amount of money I'd do a 3.4 swap. The best price I've seen from a reputable company on a 3.0 is $1500. I've talked to a few people here locally (the company is somewhat local to me) that have had great luck with their engines and I am actually picking one of them up for my truck this week if things go well. www.toyotacarpart.com

but i have no idea if my yota is a long block or short block
A 1990 toyota 4runner v6 should be a short block isnt it?? i have no idea

on any motor, the 'shortblock' is just the block that contains the crank and pistons. "Longblock" also includes the heads installed.
Be careful not to put too much in repairing that 3.0. You can pick up a 3rd gen with a 3.4 for 4000 and up from what I've seen.

i think what misterzee is saying is that a 3.4 equipped truck might go for as little as 4000, so if you sold yours and got a 3rd gen then it would be comparable in price to nursing your 3.0 back to health

yeah i can understand that.
but im keeping my truck i love the look. i love the suspension and everything done to it.
it has Rear air bags. rancho 9000 shocks 5inch suspension lift. everything automatic. everything works.
I just wanna get a new engine for it. idk what to get. rebuilt 3.0 or 3.4.
Anyone know where i can find 3.4's for sale??

I'd just get a rebuilt longlock 3.0 installed. You will not find a 3.4 to swap in and get the job done for under $2K unless you do every bit of the work yourself.

Let's hope your parents are charging you rent.
If you have already lost your license at your young age, son you'd better wise up cause a 3.0 is a slug and a 3.4 will get you or someone else killed.
First country hick I have ever seen that didnt know jack about vehicles. You sure you aint just really a collegeboywannabecountryhick?

Yeah...I'm almost positive thats whats goin on with my 93.... my comp test came out ok, but I am loosing coolant, and I do have oil dripping down the side... I'm just not sure if the oil is from the hg or the valve cover gaskets.
Just to show...my comp test was
#1 175 #2 175
#3 170 #4 165
#5 170 #6 176
Now I know those #'s are not bad...but notice the 170 on 2 cyl next to eachother....I believe thats where my prob is...I'm going to invest in some BLOKCHECKER to see if I have exhaust gases in my coolant. I do NOT have coolant in my oil or vice versa.
Also...I'm going to run the comp test again this week to see if it has got any worse.
