Put a 2nd gen center console into a 1st gen

This looks interesting. I saw it on ebay. It seems it's possible to fit a second gen console into a 1st gen (with the heater) with only a few simple modifications. If this is the case, it would sure make finding a new center console a lot easier since undamaged 1st gens are hard to come by. The big question is how it fits against the shifter bezel.

i have one out of a 94 in mine altho it is an auto and the 2nd gen was also an auto. As long as both trucks are manual u should be good. Just remember to grab the whole peice including the plastic around the shifter.

What happens if both trucks are autos? If you pull the entire center console from a 2nd gen, can it be made to fit a 1st gen?

here is some pics of the center console from a 1994 4runner installed on my 1989 4runner

it fits perfectly, but the lines of the console dont match. It would have matched if i got the peice aroudn the shift but i forgot to.

I wonder if the shifter console would fit and complete it.
